Women’s Rights March – Brussels, 8 March 26

The International Anti-Speciesist League was present in Brussels on Sunday 8 March 2026 during the march for women’s rights to denounce the structures of patriarchal domination that exploit and abuse both human and non-human individuals, and women in particular.

Anti-speciesist feminism condemns a continuum of violence, which treats women and animals as property or objects rather than individuals. On that day, through our presence and our slogans, we brought this continuum to the attention of nearly 25,000 people, encouraging them to reflect on it. Large-scale demonstrations are unique opportunities to raise awareness of anti-speciesism. We must seize them! 🔥

💡 Many female animals face a different form of oppression to males. Why?

Because they are mass-produced for exploitation, and the duration of their exploitation far exceeds that of males, particularly for the production of dairy products.
Because they are systematically raped every year, sometimes repeatedly, to perpetuate the livestock industry.
Because their young are torn from them at birth for the dairy industry. Just like animals, we see that human women’s bodies, their sexualised image and their labour are exploited. Every day, women suffer violence,
rape and femicide – all forms of daily oppression by a system that crushes them.

💥 Why does the state not take action against this tragic reality?

Because patriarchy (and capitalism) employs the same systemic practices against human women that are accepted without reservation when applied to non-human animals.

Exploitation of the reproductive body: the livestock industry is based on the forced management of the reproductive systems of female animals (cows, sows, hens, rabbits, etc.), a direct parallel to the historical control of women’s bodies.
The logic of commodification: animals and women are, to varying degrees, regarded as commodities or property in order to justify their subjugation.

3. Male predation and patriarchy: male domination imposes submission (on nature, animals, women, etc.). This violence elevates the white, adult male – in full control of himself and at the peak of his physical and intellectual abilities – to the detriment of everyone else.

This is why the history of the women’s liberation movement and that of the animal liberation movement are inextricably linked. The International Anti-Speciesist League carries on this legacy and advocates for the convergence of the liberation movements. Stopping animal exploitation at its source will undermine the ideology and the means that underpin the oppression of human women.

We have a common enemy: patriarchy.

Speciesism is not only dangerous for animals. Abolishing animal exploitation is an essential prerequisite for eliminating the violent practices that male supremacy inflicts on women.
